This month we learn about one of Delbridge Racing’s newer owners, Gregg Rigby.

Name:  Gregg Rigby
Occupation:  High Voltage Co-Ordinator
Place of residence:  Brisbane/Northern NSW
Horses Past and Current:  Romantic Spirit (past),  Lonhcosta (present)
AFL/NRL or favourite sports team:  Cronulla Sharks

Family:  Lovely girlfriend Roslyn, with her 2 young boys  Darcey and Sam

Interests:  Surfing, Bush walking, the unknown and the above Family great times together

Prediction for 2013:  Hopefully Lonhcosta will win a couple of races , stay healthy and graduate to winning group races in the future

Best Horse:  Kingston Town / Makybe Diva / Black Caviar

Favourite horse:  Lonhro /  Black Caviar

Favourite Racing Story:  Owned a share in an underperforming syndicated horse called Romantic Spirit..  Sold the share in the horse. Years later, surprisingly read in a Sydney Sunday newspaper that there was a scandal involving Romantic Spirit  in the Darwin Cup.  Romantic Spirit had unsuccessfully protested against the winner, after recieving severe check. (apparently the winners connections were also connected with the stewards , if I recall) The subsequent winner Scarvila then went on for a meritious 5th in the Caulfield Cup and Won the Dalgety Handicap  2500m (now pre cup Lexis Stakes) . To qualify for the 1987 Melbourne Cup. In the cup he  finished a tiring 15th after rounding the home bend with the leaders…
You could say we were a bit disappointed, that were strongly advised to sell Romantic Spirit . I’m sure we could have won some city races with him.

Best Win Horse/Punt:  Winning the trifecta the year those 2 Japanese horses featured in the Melbourne Cup. Nice return!

Racing Dream:  To Win some Group 1 races with Lonhcosta

Why Chosen Horse?   I always wanted another syndicated horse and I decided I wanted a Lonhro Colt. I studied the colts available in my price range and Delbridges Lonhro/Costa Complete ticked all the boxes. A really good dam side lineage was important to me and felt this horse had that. (After further homework I discoverd there a quite a few grand decendents similar to Pierro too). In addition to having Encosta De Lago and Whiskey Road in the Dams lineage  – Romantic Spirit ( Also had Whiskey Road genes too)

Why Delbridge Racing ?:   I enjoyed talking to Mark Leo pre sale from the very start. This itself, helped to seal the deal for me to purchase this particular Lonhro horse, rather than another that I was interested in. Mark is passionate about his horses and continues to be very informative. He is a pleasure to correspond with. Delbridge seems to me like it's heading in the right direction and if horse selection, passion and customer service are a barometer to go by, we're on a winner. In addition, funny enough, from the very beginning. I believed it could be a really nice fairy tale, if some smaller players in racing, ( Delbridge Racing, Mark Leo himself, this small affordable syndicate and a young up and coming trainer in Jason Warren) were to taste success with this Lonhro horse…
Gee whiz, what a  great story for all, IF Lonhcosta becomes track superstar…..fingers crossed
