New Stakes Winner For Shamardal
May 09, 2010
Boom sire Shamardal's season got better when his daughter Femina Fashion won Saturday's $125,000 Listed Gold Coast Bracelet.
Shamardal, a former outstanding racehorse by Giant's Causeway, has enjoyed excellent success in Australia this season with his stakes winning progeny including Oaks winner Faint Perfume, Shamoline Warrior (pictured winning on debut at Sale as a 2-y-old) and Happy Hippy.
He now boasts 11 individual stakes winners and currently sits third on the second-crop sires' table.
During the week in Europe his Irish-bred daughter Elle Shadow landed a Listed trial for the German Oaks at Mulheim while British-bred Acquainted ran second in the Cheshire Oaks and could now head to Royal Ascot for the G2 Ribblesdale Stakes.
A graduate of Queensland nursery Racetree, Femina Fashion was purchased by senior part owner Judy McCallum for just $35,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
She has already earned over $141,000 and she's now a valuable broodmare prospect for the future.
Femina Fashion is the only runner to date for her dam So Tempted, a city winning daughter of Jeune.
So Tempted is a full sister to the former glamour filly Lolita Star, the winner of three races including the Wakeful Stakes and earner of over $300,000.
The current weanling from Lolita Star, a colt by Fastnet Rock, is catalogued for this month's Magic Millions National Weanling Sale at the Gold Coast.
Trained at the Gold Coast by Trevor Whittington, Femina Fashion was touted as an Oaks filly, but those plans were in disarray when she was stung by a wasp last month.
Whittington said the filly missed a week's work and decided not to lodge an entry for the Queensland Oaks.
"Early on I always thought she was an Oaks style filly, but after her run at Doomben two runs back she was stung by a wasp and we didn't enter her for the Oaks.
"She'll head to the Doomben Roses now and if she happens to win that we'll probably pay the late entry," Whittington said.
